How To Make A Wind Turbine | DIY Guide

Hey, New physicist here. I am very happy to inform you that the video I published (DIY Wind Turbine) nearly two years ago on YouTube got more than 7 million views now. Thank you for your like comments and unconditional support. Many of my YouTube friends informed me that the video is very helpful to those who are planning to build a large homemade wind turbine. They also told me that it would be great if it had a voice explanation along with the video. Yeah, you can watch that video below.

in This Blogpost, you can learn How to make four different types of wind turbines. Three of them are the horizontal axis and one is the Vertical axis. You may notice the secondly listed project is incomplete. I am currently working on it. Once it is finished I will update this article. Till then enjoy the rest.

1. How to Make Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine

Let’s make a DIY horizontal axis wind turbine project using a real wooden propeller, bike alternator, and washing machine planetary gear. I have already created two horizontal and two vertical axis wind turbine projects for the New Physicist. You can find those tutorials on this blog by searching ‘DIY wind turbine’. The propeller of those wind turbines was made from PVC. Recently I decided to make a real wind turbine propeller. In this tutorial, I’m gonna guide you to make a wind turbine project using the wooden propeller. Read here How to Make Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine

2. How to Make Vertical Axis Wind Turbine?

What’s the difference between a horizontal and vertical axis wind turbine? In a horizontal axis turbine, the axis of rotation of the propeller is parallel to the ground. Whereas in the vertical axis wind turbine the axis of rotation is perpendicular to the ground. The making process was fun. You can read and watch that project here. How to Make a Vertical Axis wind Turbine This Type of wind turbine is known as savories vertical axis wind turbine. These are drag-based systems. There are lift-based Darrius wind turbines too. They look fantastic.

3. How to Make Horizontal axis Wind Turbine PVC

A six-inch PVC pipe can be turned into a horizontal axis wind turbine pro[eller. I had done a smaller version a few years ago. I replicated the same project in a larger size. It’s making video got more than 7M hits on youtube. I used cycle pedal gears and a cycle dynamo to make this wind turbine. It’s perfect for a science fair project. Watch Video here

4. How to make a small wind turbine project

It is my first wind turbine project. Propeller blades are made from PVC. Used a DC motor as the dynamo. There’s no gearbox between the propeller and the dynamo. So don’t expect any significant output from the dynamo. However, it’s a fun project and easy to make and impress your teachers or parents. Even it’s a simple project, there’s a yaw mechanism, which helps the propeller to adjust its self to face the wind all the time. Watch Video here

This is the list of four different types of DIY wind turbine projects for New Physicist. Hope everyone loves it. Please let me know your thoughts in the comment section. I will add links to more wind turbine projects as soon as I made the. yeah, I am not going to stop. Planning to build a bigger one to charge my off-grid system. So bookmark this page and come back later. Thank You.

  1. Hi, I love your work and wanted to apply it to a desalination device. I was wondering if you knew the power output or Voltage and Current output of the turbine? Keep up the great work!

  2. I want to make a wind turbine for a water pump for our vegetable plant yard approx area- 2,000 sq. meter. could you please help me with the applicable design details and capacity. many thanks and God bless.

    1. If you are sure you have enough wind in your area you can definitely make a wind turbine powered irrigation system. If your sole purpose is irrigation you can integrate solar panels and solar water pump. Your application is not clear too. Depth of the well, amount of water needed per day etc. pls update.

    2. Hi sir! Good day! I would like to have the equipments and step by step procedure on making a wind turbine generator if possible? We will use it in our final project
